It is my pleasure to welcome you to the County Line Volunteer Fire Department website, an invaluable resource for the residents and business community of the County Line Volunteer Fire Department district. I have been a proud member of this outstanding organization for over 20 years. Even to this day I still feel excited and honored to be a part of this wonderful department.
County Line Volunteer Fire Department was started in 1973 to protect the lives and property of rural western Davie County and eastern Iredell County. A group of gentlemen in the community saw the need for fire protection in our area and began building the foundation to our organization. The volunteers originally were men from the community who just wanted to help their fellow community member. All of them had little to no training in the fire service, but there dedication to serve their community shined like a bright light on a stormy night.
A lot has changed since 1973. There are more stringent standards to uphold and our training staff works diligently to ensure our members have the most up to date training. Our operations team works to make sure we have the proper tools for any incident. Today we still operate as a volunteer department with a part-time paid staff program. We rely heavily on our volunteers, which consists of men and women from all walks of life who are dedicate to serve their community. One major difference now is that we are living in a more complex world where we need to be more pro-active and not re-active. Today's firefighters and EMT's have to be highly trained and prepared to handle any of today's complex emerginces.
We are commited to change and change concepts, which has always come very hard in the fire service. My greatest job as the Fire Chief is to ensure that all my volunteers and paid staff go home at the end of the day. With our training program and members with extensive knowledge of the fire service, I feel that we are dedicated to making sure everyone on an emergency scene or training scenario gets home safely to their families. We continue to strive to be on the forefront of technological advancements and be an integral part of our community. We also take great steps to remain fiscally responsible with any advancement we achieve.
I am honored to lead this dedicated organization as we continue to move forward. I encourage you to participate in our effort provide the highest level of service we can provide. If you have any comments, concerns, or would like to just stop by and say hello, I invite any and all feedback.
Gratefully,
Matt Stegall
Fire Chief
